Lithography (from the Greek lithos – “stone” and grapho – “to write, to draw”) is a printmaking technique based on planographic (flat surface) printing. In this process, printing ink is transferred under pressure from a flat printing surface onto paper. Lithography relies on physicochemical principles: the image is created on a special lithographic stone, which, after proper treatment, attracts ink in certain areas and repels it in others.
The drawing is made directly on the stone using a special lithographic pencil and ink, employing a variety of techniques.
Lithography holds a special place in Ulyana’s artistic practice.
She works exclusively with lithographic stones, using the traditional method of hand printing.
The limited editions of her lithographs give each piece a unique character, artistic value, and a sense of exclusivity.
